The sequence of tragedy began unfolding when the 112 Emergency Call Center received urgent, frantic reports from multiple locations within Afyonkarahisar regarding sudden gunfire and multiple injuries. Recognizing the immediate and escalating threat, local command centers rapidly dispatched heavily armed gendarmerie teams and emergency medical response units to the targeted rural neighborhoods to secure the areas, render aid, and locate any surviving victims.

As law enforcement units saturated the region, they uncovered a grim trail of devastation spread across multiple distinct settlements. Authorities first discovered three individuals shot dead near Ayazini village. Continuing their grim search across the rural landscape, security forces located another three victims lifeless near Kayır village. The violence did not stop there, as emergency responders soon found two women severely wounded in Yukarıtandır village. Both victims were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital under emergency medical priority, but despite the best efforts of medical personnel and intensive interventions, they succumbed to their critical injuries.

In total, the attacks claimed eight lives, while another victim remains hospitalized under intensive medical care in critical condition, fighting for survival as doctors monitor their vital signs around the clock.

Following the initial wave of violence, the perpetrator managed to flee the province, crossing administrative boundaries into neighboring Eskişehir province. According to preliminary reports from the investigation, the suspect escalated his flight by carjacking a vehicle in the rural Kırka neighborhood of the Seyitgazi district, attempting to elude the closing net of law enforcement.

However, local vigilance played a critical role in tracking the suspect’s movements. Following crucial tips and sightings provided by alert local residents, gendarmerie teams successfully located the suspect’s vehicle. The SUV had become immobilized and hopelessly stuck in the mud in the rural Taşlık neighborhood, hampering the suspect’s ability to flee further on foot or by wheel. Upon securing the vehicle, law enforcement officers recovered a pump-action shotgun and a large quantity of ammunition, which are believed to have been utilized in the horrific attacks across Afyonkarahisar.

With the vehicle abandoned or immobilized and the weapon secured, security forces intensified their tactical sweep of the surrounding terrain to locate and apprehend the fleeing suspect. Their swift and coordinated efforts across provincial lines ultimately resulted in the successful capture of the individual, bringing a tense inter-provincial manhunt to a close.

In the wake of the tragedy, the Afyonkarahisar Governor’s Office released an official statement confirming the devastating death toll. The administration assured the public that all relevant state institutions, law enforcement agencies, and judicial bodies were working in close coordination to thoroughly investigate every aspect of the attacks. Officials emphasized that the state is fully committed to ensuring that the judicial process proceeds effectively, transparently, and swiftly to deliver accountability and justice.

Demonstrating the gravity of the situation, the Afyonkarahisar Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office immediately launched a comprehensive and multi-faceted judicial investigation into the massacre. To ensure a meticulous inquiry, the prosecutor’s office formally assigned a deputy chief prosecutor alongside three additional prosecutors to oversee the case, gather physical and forensic evidence, take witness testimonies, and map out the suspect’s timeline and exact movements across the province.

The local educational community, meanwhile, was plunged into deep mourning as the identity of the victims came to light. The provincial education directorate formally identified two of the deceased women as Ayşe Sena Demir and Hilal Mete. Both women served with dedication as teachers at the İhsaniye Yukarıtandır Secondary School, where they were highly regarded by their colleagues, students, and the wider community. In a formal statement released following the tragedy, the directorate expressed profound grief and extended heartfelt condolences to the grieving families, loved ones, and the entire educational community of Afyonkarahisar as they struggle to come to terms with the sudden and violent loss of their esteemed educators.
