BBC Welcomes Noah Veltman as New Knight-Mozilla Fellow for 2013

Back in July, the BBC announced that it would be collaborating with the Knight-Mozilla fellowship program for a second consecutive year. The initiative invited applications from individuals who are deeply passionate about the intersection of technology and journalism, and who are keen to make a meaningful, lasting impact in this rapidly evolving field at the public broadcaster.

Following a competitive selection process, senior product manager Andrew Leimdorfer has provided an official update on the appointment. The BBC is pleased to announce that it has selected its new Knight-Mozilla fellow, Noah Veltman, who is officially scheduled to begin his tenure with the organization in January 2013.

Noah Veltman enters the role as one of only eight elite fellows selected for the 2013 cohort. The full roster of fellows is set to be officially announced at this weekend’s sold-out Mozilla Festival, which is taking place in London. These fellows will be embedded within prominent news organizations located around the world, joining prestigious newsrooms such as the Guardian and the New York Times, where they will work at the cutting edge of digital reporting and technical development.

Because technology is transforming the landscape of modern journalism in countless different ways, the BBC faces an initial challenge in determining exactly where to focus its efforts. The primary task ahead will be to make a strategic choice regarding which specific technological and journalistic areas Noah will help pioneer during his time with the organization next year. Among the leading possibilities are developing advanced data visualisations that can make complex information accessible to audiences, and creating innovative, highly engaging content tailored specifically for the mobile web.

The BBC warmly welcomes Noah Veltman to the digital and product teams and extends its best wishes to all of the 2013 Knight-Mozilla fellows as they embark on their respective projects in the year ahead.
