Qatar Strongly Rejects Israeli Allegations of Election Interference as ‘Ridiculous and Dangerous’

As Israel awaits the final, certified results of its highly contested parliamentary elections, political friction has spilled over into international disputes. Some prominent Israeli political figures and allied media outlets have sought to drag Qatar into the electoral fray, launching what Doha has firmly condemned as an unfounded disinformation campaign. The accusations allege that Qatari funds were covertly funneled to Arab political parties within Israel to finance get-out-the-vote drives—claims that Qatari officials have categorically rejected.

Majed al-Ansari, the official spokesperson for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, issued a sharp denunciation of the claims on Thursday. In a statement shared on the social media platform X, al-Ansari dismissed the allegations of electoral interference or financial backing aimed at swaying the Knesset results as entirely baseless.

"We reject the accusations made by certain Israeli politicians and their contacts in the media, who have launched yet another disinformation campaign aiming to drag Qatar into Israeli political disputes following this week’s elections," al-Ansari stated. He described the unsubstantiated claims as "ridiculous and dangerous in equal measure," characterizing them as the latest chapter in a long-running pattern of hostile rhetoric and political targeting directed against Doha.

The controversy unfolds against the backdrop of a deeply polarized political climate in Israel, where partial election results from Tuesday’s parliamentary vote indicated that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing bloc would fall short of securing a governing majority in the Knesset. Concurrently, the preliminary tallies showed that the nation’s Arab lists had achieved a record number of seats in the new parliament. Despite this legislative milestone, mainstream Israeli political parties have continued to resist the prospect of forming parliamentary alliances or partnerships with Arab factions, leaving the path to a stable governing coalition deeply uncertain.

Amid the political posturing surrounding the vote, Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party and associated media platforms put forward the allegations regarding Qatari financial influence without presenting any verifying evidence. However, these claims have found little traction within official institutional oversight bodies. Dean Livine, the acting director for Israel’s Central Elections Committee, formally rejected the narrative of foreign interference in a written response directed to a member of parliament and fellow committee member.

"The Knesset elections were conducted lawfully. The integrity of the elections at polling stations was rigorously safeguarded," Livine wrote, affirming the validity of the electoral process.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman pointed out the logical contradictions inherent in the accusations leveled by certain Israeli politicians, noting the sheer absurdity of the shifting narratives pushed by domestic critics over time.

"[Some Israeli politicians] accuse Qatar of buying off Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli political left and now, in this latest campaign, the Arab vote. If these claims were to be believed, Qatar would apparently own all of Israel," al-Ansari remarked. He argued that the persistent invocation of Qatar within Israeli electoral debates exposes an unhealthy fixation among specific political factions and media commentators, emphasizing that Doha should not be exploited as a convenient scapegoat to mask domestic political setbacks or failures.

Al-Ansari suggested that the politicians propagating these theories would be far better served by shifting their focus inward—attending to the immediate needs of their own constituents, working to improve everyday living standards, and addressing the profound regional damage they have helped create. He reiterated emphatically that Qatar maintains zero involvement in Israel’s internal political landscape or electoral competitions, stressing that these remain purely domestic Israeli affairs that Doha has no desire to enter, nor any tolerance for being drawn into.

The latest friction builds upon a series of prior tensions and aggressive rhetoric directed toward Qatar over recent years. Netanyahu previously boasted publicly about military actions against Qatar in September 2025 amid Israel’s broader war on Gaza. Furthermore, investigative reports revealed that Israeli influence experts and political advisers orchestrated a covert digital campaign targeting Qatar in the immediate aftermath of the Hamas-led attacks on southern Israel on October 7, 2023.

Despite these ongoing political maneuvers and hostile public campaigns, Qatari officials emphasized that their diplomatic focus remains steadfast. Qatar continues to serve as a pivotal international mediator in the ongoing conflicts plaguing the Middle East. Doha played a central and indispensable role in high-stakes diplomatic negotiations aiming to halt Israel’s military campaign in Gaza. Beyond the Palestinian territories, Qatar has also taken a leading role in mediating between Washington and Tehran in efforts to de-escalate and find diplomatic resolutions to the broader regional confrontations involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

Concluding his remarks, al-Ansari made clear that the manufactured controversies and baseless accusations circulating in the wake of the Israeli elections would do nothing to deter Doha from fulfilling its international responsibilities. He affirmed that Qatar remains fully dedicated to its role as a trusted mediator, its expansive diplomatic and humanitarian missions, its steadfast backing of the Palestinian people, and its enduring commitment to achieving a just, comprehensive peace and lasting regional stability.
